PRODUCT HERITAGE
Engineering Beyond Optical Filters
Mosaic Engineering's history includes complete cameras, digital camera backs, imaging software, embedded camera modules, and instrumented handheld platforms.
Although these products served very different applications, they shared a common engineering approach: begin with the imaging requirement, then combine the necessary optics, electronics, software, and mechanical design into a purpose-built system.
SPECIALIZED DIGITAL IMAGING
Aurora
Aurora represents Mosaic's early work in specialized digital-camera design and integrated imaging hardware.
Surviving product photography shows a modular camera system with interchangeable optics and external computer interfaces—an early example of Mosaic developing a camera around technical imaging requirements rather than a mass-market consumer format.

DIGITAL CAMERA BACK + SOFTWARE
Luma and Luma Studio
Luma transformed compatible medium- and large-format cameras into computer-controlled digital imaging systems.
The camera back worked with Luma Studio software on a FireWire-equipped Macintosh computer. Camera operation, live viewing, focusing, and image acquisition became part of an integrated computer-based workflow.
Its four-way attachment and camera-specific adaptations demonstrate an important Mosaic capability: extending established professional camera platforms with purpose-built digital hardware and software.

EMBEDDED IMAGING
8-Megapixel OEM Smart Camera Module
A compact camera-and-computing platform designed to become part of another manufacturer's equipment.
The module integrated an 8-megapixel CMOS camera, a 600 MHz ARM processor, a TI C64 DSP core, and removable MicroSD storage in a compact form.
Flexible interfaces supported integration into constrained and application-specific systems.

This product marks Mosaic's progression from complete camera products toward component-level OEM engineering for integration into other manufacturers' systems.
INSTRUMENTED HANDHELD PLATFORM
Flicker
Flicker combined a digital camera, mobile computer, position sensing, and programmable interfaces in one field-ready platform.
An internal GPS receiver, three-axis digital compass, QVGA touchscreen, and configurable controls supported specialized data-collection and field applications.
Windows CE or Linux provided a foundation for customer-specific operational software.
Expansion and external interfaces allowed the handheld platform to work with peripherals, storage, and other instruments—making Flicker more than a camera and closer to a programmable mobile engineering system.

A CONTINUING ENGINEERING APPROACH
From Complete Cameras to OEM Optical Systems
Aurora and Luma joined camera hardware with specialized imaging workflows. Flicker combined imaging, sensing, and mobile computing.
The smart-camera module moved the same application-first thinking into an embedded platform that other manufacturers could integrate into their own equipment.
That progression continued in Mosaic's later optical work: engineered components, filter stacks, and assemblies designed around a customer's sensor, camera architecture, and performance requirements.
